As many of you know my son is currently attending college in Washington DC. Which means that I get to visit him and have the most wonderful experiences. The picture above is at the Hirshhorn Museum. Laurie Anderson, the artist painted the floor and walls with words and images. When I walked into this room I had a sensory overload. My heart started beating faster and I literally wanted to leave the room. I suspect this is the exact thing the artist intended. I did stay in the room for a while and took it all in. Beautiful.
I did my first 5K too! My son was signed up to do compete in the half marathon but his knee was hurting. So he joined me in a run and mostly walking 5K! I loved crossing the finish line with his hand in mine. Thanks for pushing me kiddo!!
We stumbled across a Holi celebration. A Hindu festival, celebrated annually in March, marking the triumph of good over evil and the arrival of spring, with vibrant traditions of throwing colored powders and water. The colors and the loud music was mesmerising!
On a more somber note. We took in the sacred and hallowed grounds of Arlington National Cemetery. Vast. Did you know that the guards of the tomb of the unknown soldier are there 24/7? Through hurricanes, earthquakes, 3am, blizzards.... It's humbling to witness the changing of the guards.
We saw so much art. I'll leave you with this piece that was created in collaboration by Osgemeos (twin brothers) and Banksy. The black and white soldier is Banksy.
Good stuff.
